Rector charges students to be equipped with 21st century skill as Yabatech matriculates 8,202

Yabatech rector has charged the new students of the College to be equipped with 21 Century skills, and industry-recognized micro credentials to enhance employability and entrepreneurial potential.

The Rector of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Dr. Engr. Ibraheem A. Abdul has charged the new students of the College to be equipped with 21 Century skills, and industry-recognized micro credentials to enhance employability and entrepreneurial potential.

Dr. Abdul declared that the partnership of the College with global technology giants, Huawei and  Commercial and Industrial Security Cooperation (CISCO) have led to the establishment of Information Communication Technology (ICT) academics on campus, and these partnerships will enable students to gain cutting-edge skills in lCT, which are critical in today's digital world.

He made the declaration during the matriculation of 8,202 newly admitted students into the College for 2023/2024 academic session, for full-time to study various courses being offered in the institution out of the total number of 21,530 that applied for admission.

According to him, "As you step through the doors of this institution you are not just students, you are future leaders, innovators and change makers. The journey that you are about to undertake will be filled with challenges and triumphs, and it is a journey that will shape not only your academic and professional lives, but also your character and values".

"Here in YABATECH, we pride ourselves on fostering an environment that encourages innovation, critical thinking and creativity. You will be surrounded by distinguished Lecturers who are not only experts in their fields but also passionate about nurturing the next generation of scholars. You are encouraged to engage with them, ask questions, and make the most out of the resources available to you". He avowed.

In his matriculation speech, the Chairman of YABATECH Governing Council, Prof. Funsho Afolabi counseled the new students that they have officially become part of the great citadel of learning known for excellence, innovation and integrity.

Prof. Funsho Afolabi hinted that as they stepped into their roles as students of YABATECH, they should remember that they are entering a place of opportunity, the College is not merely a venue for academic pursuit, it is also a launching pad for their dreams and aspirations. The knowledge they gain, the skills they develop and the relationship they forge in the College will serve as the foundation for their future endeavors.

He assured them that YABATECH is committed to providing them with holistic and enriching educational experience, the College dedicated faculty members are to impact not only with knowledge, but also wisdom and mentorship, they will challenge them to think critically, explore creatively and become problem-solving in an ever changing world.

The Governing Council Chairman encouraged them to take full advantage of the available resources; engage in academic and extra curricular activities, seek guidance and collaborate with their peers, they should remember that education is not confined to the classroom alone, but it is enriched by their experiences, interactions and exploration beyond textbooks.

The Professor of Geography concluded by emphasizing the importance of values, integrity, respect and responsibility. He highlighted that the values are the cornerstone of becoming not just successful professionals but also responsible citizens of our great nation Nigeria, as they grow and learn, the principles should guide their actions and decisions.
