The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, appears to be flouting the directive on the Treasury Single Account (TSA) hence, short-changing the federal government of huge revenue.
President Mohammed Buhari had last year directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the federal government to fully comply with Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy, implying that all MDAs are to pay all revenue generated into the Treasury Single Account, TSA.
However, Prompt News Online, reports that the FRSC personnel at the Federal Housing Authority, FHA Lugbe Unit, and in most of the Commission’s units and offices across the country, are making thousands of Naira daily from sale of Nigeria Highway Code without remittance into FG’s coffers.
Motorists are being forced to pay a cash of N600 for the highway code despite insistence by motorists who flout traffic law that a bank account or TSA number should be given to pay for the highway code and fines.
The FRSC personnel at the FHA Lugbe Unit, for instance, only direct motorists to pay fines into a Wema Bank account while they collect a cash of N600 from individual offender without issuance of receipts.
Our correspondent noticed several motorists who lined up at the FRSC Lugbe Office on Monday and Tuesday, waiting to pay the N600.
Some of the Motorists, who spoke to our correspondent, complained bitterly that the highway code was made compulsory no matter the frequency of the traffic fines, coughing out N600 at every opportunity in addition to d Fines.
