The Rivers State Government has debunked rumours that Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi was “involved in a ghastly accident”, and so out of circulation.

Such speculation, the State Government reasoned, was the product of mischief-makers, evil harbingers and those who wished Governor Amaechi dead.

“We make haste to inform Rivers people that their Governor is hale, hearty and ready to cast his ballot tomorrow during the Governorship/House of Assembly elections. The rumour is nothing but the handiwork of mischief-makers and those who wish the Governor ill, but unfortunately, are not God”, a statement signed by Ibim Semenitari, Rivers State Commissioner of Information and Communications said.

The statement which repudiated the fake story that had attracted several inquiries, stated that while the rumour was spreading like the harmattan wildfire to the admiration of Amaechi’s foes, the Governor was busy attending to state matters including receiving some prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who decamped from the party to join the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Semenitari assured Rivers people that Governor Amaechi will be at his duty desk as State Chief Executive, through the grace of God, until May 29, 2015 when he will hand-over to a new Administration.

“We want to assure Rivers people that Governor Amaechi is committed to finishing very strong and through the grace of God, will remain at his desk until May 29 when he will hand-over to a new democratically-elected Administration”.

The statement thanked all those who made inquiries as to the condition of Gov. Amaechi for their concern, describing them as “great friends”.

Such well-wishers, Semenitari reiterated, have nothing to worry about as Amaechi was never involved in any accident.
