Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, a former governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Kano, says Abdullahi Ganduje, national chair of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has asked him to return to the ruling party.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Tanko-Yakasai said Ganduje urged him to help in “consolidating the gains” of the party.

The former governorship candidate said he has already withdrawn his membership of the PRP ahead of his return to APC.

“The National Chairman of the APC His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR, has requested me to return to the APC and continue to give my best in consolidating the gains of the party from top to bottom, which I have gladly accepted,” he said.

“I’ve withdrawn my membership from the PRP and will rejoin the APC.”

Tanko-Yakasai was an aide to Ganduje when the APC chair was governor of Kano state.

Ganduje sacked him in February 2021 after he criticised former President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership style.

“Clearly, we as [the] APC government, at all levels, have failed Nigerians in the number 1 duty we were elected to do which is to secure lives & properties,” he posted on X at the time.

“Not a single day goes by without some sort of insecurity in this land. This is a shame! Deal with terrorists decisively or resign.”

Following the tweet, Tanko-Yakasai was detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) but he was later set free.
