Saraki’s DSS operatives arrested for N310m robbery

Five of the operatives of the Department of State Services attached to the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, have been indicted and arrested for involvement in a robbery operation.

While two of them have been arrested, three are said to be on the run.

Five personnel of the Nigerian Army are also involved in the robbery said to have been carried out at a Bureau De Change in Abuja.

The robbery operation carried out on November 20, 2015 involves N310 million.

DSS Operatives

A statement on Sunday by the DSS, issued by Tony Opuiyo, said the money had been shared by the security personnel involved in the robbery but part of it had been recovered.

Opuiyo in the statement gave the names of the DSS operatives as Abdulrasheed Ahmadu MAIGARI, Solomon INUSA, Peter OKOYE, Patrick ISHAYA and George Mwatapwa IBBI.

Maigari and Ibbi wee arrested last week.

This was noticed when the faces of the DSS operatives in Saraki’s hordes of details was noticed.

The five military personnel involved were led by Captain Hussein Ishaku MSHELIA, who has also been arrested by the Nigerian Army authorities.

Out of the amount stolen, N66,437,445.00 and $6,200 have so far been recovered, while efforts are being made to recover the remaining amounts.

Opuiyo added in the statement: “It is to be noted that security agencies now act in concert, thus the joint investigation undertaken with the Police, Army and the DSS.

“This action of the Service is in line with the posture of the current Administration and DSS management focus on professionalism, transparency and accountability.

“Those so far arrested have been suspended pending the completion of investigations.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Service wants to reiterate its commitment to the basic ideals and principles as established by its forebears and will not spare anyone found to be contravening the rules and regulations or the laws of the land.

“We therefore encourage members of the public with useful information that could lead to the arrest of those at large to volunteer same to the Service or other security agency.

“The DSS also wishes to use this opportunity to assure all law abiding citizens of their safety and urge them to partner with the Service in the smooth discharge of its responsibilities.”
