Serious tension rose on Tuesday at the Senate closed-door meeting over suggestion by some loyalists of the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki,‎ to commence the impea‎chment of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The senators behind the suggestion are infuriated over the perceived support of Buhari for the case instituted against Saraki and the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, for forgery of the Senate Rules.

At the resumption of the Senate sitting after the Sallah break, Saraki called for a closed-door session which lasted for about one and a half hours, during which one of Saraki’s loyalists raised the issue of withdrawing the suit against Saraki and Ekweremadu by the lawmakers that wrote the petition to the Police.

The senator, who is from the North Central, asked his colleagues to lunch a full scale war against the Presidency so that the Executive will be compelled to back down on the matter.

But Senator Olufemi Tinubu, wife of the national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu appealed to his colleague to take the matter easy, the comment which our correspondent gathered infuriated one of Saraki’s allies who threatened to beat Tinubu if she was not careful.

At the closed-door meeting, the former Senate President, David Mark was said to have warned the lawmakers not to even think of commencing the impeachment proceedings against Buhari.
