Six persons died on Tuesday when a petrol tanker caught fire in Aramoko-Ekiti, in the Ekiti West Local Government Area, the traditional ruler of the town, Oba Olu Adeyemi, has said.
Adeyemi said this while conducting a delegation of the state government led by the deputy governor, Prof. Modupe Adelabu, round the scene of the accident.
He said information made available to him indicated that the accident, which occurred around 7.00 p.m., occurred as a result of the loss of control of the tanker by the driver.
The traditional ruler also said that the entire content of petrol inside the tanker was burnt.
In her remarks, the deputy governor expressed shock at the incident and assured the traditional ruler and his subjects of government’s readiness to assist families of the victims.
Adelabu, who expressed concern at the recklessness of drivers of articulated vehicles, urged aggrieved youths to maintain peace.
Sources said that four occupants of a two-storey building and two road side GSM recharge card vendors died in the incident.
