Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, has said that there was no constitutional allowance for a sole administration should election not hold in troubled states.
He said should election not hold, the present administration in the states would be given another six months in the saddle.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed special advisers, the governor said it was unfortunate that some sons and daughters of the state were agitating for the postponement of elections in the state for political reasons.
He asked them to have a rethink as there was no constitutional provision for a military sole administrator if election was postponed in troubled states.
He said, “In case election is not held in Borno, Governor Kashim Shettima’s government will be extended for six months.”
Shettima claimed that those calling for the postponement of elections were political opponents that “know they cannot win election; that is why they are calling for the postponement of elections in the state.”
He said, “Elections were held in Afghanistan; elections were held in Somalia; elections were held in Mali; elections were held in Iraq. I see no reason elections should not hold in Borno, so elections must hold in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
“Borno has over 1,000 years of history. Borno survived Rabeh invasion; survives Maitatsine crisis and will, Insha Allah, survive Boko Haram insurgency.”
He called on the newly appointed Special Advisers to work closely with the commissioners, caretaker chairmen at local government areas, chairmen of the party at national, state and local government levels to ensure victory for the All Progressives Congress in the February elections.
The governor asked all Nigerian to vote for APC in other to realise the desired change for the country.
“Change is in the air, as such, all Nigerians should unite irrespective of race, region, religion and tribe to secure it as presented by the APC. It is not because I am in APC but PDP has failed,” he said.
