The convoy of the Speaker of the House of Representative, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal was on Monday involved in a ghastly accident in which two persons were reportedly killed and several others injured along the ever busy Ali Akilu way in Kaduna.
The auto crash occurred at about 10.45am when the Speaker’s convoy that was leaving Deluxe Suites entered the busy road without any warning, forcing an oncoming commercial bus with Kano number XA 863 FGE to break abruptly, leaving to multiple collusion.
Also, a Toyota Hiace with registration number XA 657 PAK that also tried to avoid the collusion ran into a cement wall, killing two passengers, a lady and a man sitting in the front seat, while the driver and other passengers sustained injuries.
Even though it could not be confirmed whether the Speaker was in the convoy or not, the team did not stop to assess the accident but sped off and their action did not go down well with eyewitnesses who angrily used their vehicles and other objects to barricade the busy road, creating heavy traffic congestion for about two hours and forced road users to seek alternative routes.
A joint team of military and police personnel under the command of Col. Adebayo Fawole was later drafted to the scene to disperse the crowd and ensure normalcy.
A towing van was later brought to remove the damaged vehicles from the scene while the dead and injured were moved to Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital.
However Tambuwal’s spokesperson, Imam Dalhatu Imam denied that the Speaker’s convoy was involved in the accident, adding that the advance party may have been the ones responsible for the crash, stressing that the office of the Speaker was waiting for the details of the accident.
The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state, Alhassan Haruna, who confirmed the accident, said that immediately he got the news of the crash, he dispatched the chairman of Kawo Motor Park and Central Market Motor Park to the scene.
