A teenager, Jayan Bello, on Tuesday pleaded guilty to stealing a cow in Iseyin, Oyo State.
The police prosecutor, Friday Sule, had earlier told a Chief Magistrates’ Court that Bello committed the offence on Jan. 2 about 6.30 a.m. in Ado-Awaya village, a suburb of Iseyin.
According to the prosecutor, the accused jumped into the compound of the complainant, Amodu Jahjah, and stole the cow.
“He did not know that someone was watching him from afar. He was later apprehended and handed over to the police after he was caught red-handed with the cow, ‘’Sule said.
The prosecutor said that the offence was contrary to and punishable under sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State.
Bello, who was not represented by a counsel, pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and felony.
He pleaded for clemency, saying “it was the work of the devil.’’
Chief Magistrate Abiola Richard adjourned the case till Feb. 18 for sentencing and ordered the accused to be remanded in Oyo prison.
