Crisis is brewing in the Ikirun, Igbajo, and Iree communities as Governor Ademola Adeleke removed their monarchs on Thursday, January 18, citing the White Paper’s findings.

The sacked monarchs include Oba Adegboyega Famodun of Igbajo, Oba Ademola Ponle of Iree, and Oba Yinusa Akadiri of Ikirun.

It was gathered that the affected communities became tense following the removal of the three monarchs, as they strongly opposed the state government’s decision.

The Iree community, through the Secretary of the ruling houses in Iree, Gbenga Olatunji, while reacting, said the Oṣun state government: “Only rob mud on the face judiciary with such a proclamation when a competent court of jurisdictions has already reserved judgment on the same subject matter, and it further shows that they want to create an artificial crisis in Iree community.”

“If not JUSUN strike, the court would have deliver the judgment on December 14th, 2023, we rejected the white paper and we strongly believe in judiciary to justice on the throne, it is just a question of time, that charade can not stand, but we appeal to our people especially the rulling houses to remain calm and law abiding”.

Similarly, the former Commissioner for Local Government and Cheiftancy Affairs, who is also from Larooye ruling house in Iree, Prince Adebayo Adeleke also condemned the white paper, describing it as an effort in futility.

He said Governor Ademola Adeleke only further validates his ignorance of the law with respect to the kingship process and the government’s vendental posture.

He said: “If Governor Ademola Adeleke was rightly advised, he would have understood such pronouncement is a contempt of court and double standard on a matter that parties have called witnesses and filed written address.”

Similarly, the Oluomo of Igbajo, Sunday Akere when contacted he described the decision of Adeleke as unfortunate, stressing that Oba Famodun was duly appointed after following due process and support from kingmakers.

He noted that the decision of Adeleke is political because he took him over one year to make such decision.

He disclosed that “All the residents of Igbajo community are behind Oba Famodun because he was legally nominated and appointed by the administration of Adegboyega Oyetola. We are going to challenge the decision of Adeleke in court. We are law-abiding.”
