The reassignment of senior officers has been authorized by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, in an effort to ensure administrative and operational effectiveness in the Nigerian Army (NA).

In a statement released on Saturday, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, director of army public relations, noted that the new postings and appointments were made to maintain the recent operational accomplishments in addressing the nation’s developing security problems.

Major Generals and Brigadier Generals, among other senior officers from various army formations and divisions, are among the impacted officers, according to Nwachukwu.

He continued by saying that various Principal Staff Officers of the Army Headquarters, Corps Commanders, Commandants of Army Training Institutions, Brigade Commanders, Commanding officers, and numerous more would be impacted by the relocation.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Ali, is now the Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, according to Nwachukwu (OPHK).

He stated that Maj.-Gen. AS Chinade will transfer from Headquarters 2 Division to Headquarters 82 Division as GOC, and Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Ibrahim, Chief of Training (Army), had been designated GOC 3 Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH).

GM Mutkut had been appointed as the GOC for the 8th Division and the Commander of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) from the Army Headquarters Department of Policy and Plan, he stated.

“Those newly appointed Corps Commanders are Maj.-Gen. MS Ahmed, who goes to Headquarters Nigerian Army Armoured Corps as Corps Commander, and Maj.-Gen. Christopher Musa, who formerly served as the theatre commander, OPHK.

“Maj.-Gen. BR Sinjen, formerly of the Nigerian Army School of Artillery, is now the new Corps Commander for the Corps of Artillery, while Maj.-Gen. PE Eromosele, formerly of the National Defense College, is now the commander of Headquarters Nigerian Army Engineers.

Maj.-Gen. GS Abdullahi transfers from the Defence Space Administration to the Headquarters Nigerian Army Signals, while Maj.-Gen. AA Ayanuga becomes the head of the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command.

Maj.-Gen. Solomon Udounwa, a redeployee from the Army Headquarters Department of Special Services, is one of the new Defence and Army Headquarters Principal Staff Officers.

Maj.-Gen. Y. Yahaya from Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade moves to the Department of Army Administration as the Director of Manpower (Army), among other promotions, he said. “Maj.-Gen. SG Mohammed has been appointed the Chief of Training, Maj.-Gen. UT Musa from Headquarters 82 Division to the Department of Army Administration as Director of Personnel Management, and Maj.-Gen. Y Yahaya from Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.”

According to Nwachukwu, Brigadier General TI Gusau has been named Director of Defence Information, while Brigadier General AM Umar has been named the new Commander of the Guards Brigade.

He claims that Brig.-Gen. S Aliyu, from Headquarters 6 Division to Headquarters 63 Brigade, and Brig.-Gen. HD Bobbo, from National Defence College to Headquarters 31 Brigade, are two other Brigade Commanders who have been redeployed.

“Among others, Brig.-Gen. MT Aminu transfers from the Army War College Nigeria to Headquarters 35 Brigade.”

The recent promotion of senior officers, which the Army Council authorized for the year 2022, makes it necessary to underline that redeployment in the Nigerian Army is normal.

“All appointments will be redeployed beginning on January 11.”
