The convoy of the wife of presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aishat Buhari, was on Monday attacked by political thugs in Ilorin, Kwara state.

Mrs Buhari, who has been deeply involved in her husband’s electioneering campaign, arrived Kwara state in the company of Dolapo Osinbajo, wife of Yemi Osinbajo, running mate to Muhammadu Buhari, and some other stalwarts of the party.

Upon arrival, she paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the Emir of Ilorin and was heading to the government house at Ahmadu Bello Way for a town hall meeting when the hoodlums attacked her convoy.

About 10 vehicles were vandalised during the attack, which Ishola Balogun-Fulani, chairman of the APC in Kwara, claimed was carried out by thugs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He urged the police to investigate the incident and bring the culprits to book.

“It will be recalled that the APC has repeatedly reported to the police and other security agencies about the plan by the PDP to cause violence and mayhem before, during and after the forthcoming general elections.

“A worrisome incident took place on Monday, March 16, 2015 during the visit of Hajia Aishat Buhari, wife of APC presidential candidate. Her convoy was attacked around a film house along Emir Road, Ilorin.

“About 10 vehicles were vandalised. We are using this medium again to call on the police and other security agencies to be alert and caution PDP.”

Ajayi Okasanmi, public relations officer of the Kwara state police command, could not be reached for comment, as he neither answered calls to his mobile phone nor replied the sms sent.
