Suspected political thugs attacked the campaign office of the factional governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State, Jimoh Ibrahim.
The office, which is located on Oyemekun Road, Akure, the state capital, had some parts of the building housing it destroyed by the suspected political hoodlums.
It was gathered that the attack was not unconnected with the factional crisis within the party that had led to the emergence of two candidates for the forthcoming governorship election, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) and Ibrahim.
On Sunday, our correspondent observed that the PDP flags representing the 18 local government areas of the state were pulled down while a big banner bearing the picture of Ibrahim as the PDP’s candidate was removed from the wall of the office.
In his reaction, the Director of Publicity of Jimoh Ibrahim Campaign Organisation, Sola Akinuli, condemned the attack, describing it as unfortunate.
He said, “It was much unexpected from any quarter that such a barbaric act should rear its ugly head in 2016 when we thought all acts of hooliganism have been thrown into the dustbin of history.
“We are, therefore, calling on security agencies to take over the matter in order to forestall future occurrences. On peace we stand; and that we plead for, from all quarters.”
When contacted on the telephone, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Mr. Femi Joseph, said he was not aware of the incident as of the time of filing this report.
He said, “I am not aware of the attack. I don’t think the case was reported at any police station in Akure.”
