The Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) has implored drivers in the state to stop driving against traffic.
In a statement titled: ‘Notice to All Road Users and Drivers in Anambra State’, the agency said drivers should adhere strictly to designated routes to avoid endangering lives.
The agency said it has deployed a special team to curb the “life-threatening” habit.
“Driving against traffic (one-way) is tantamount to endangering lives. The risks involved cannot be overstated,” the statement reads.
“The agency has observed a disturbing trend, particularly in Onitsha, where drivers, including heavy-duty trucks, disregard traffic rules after 6 pm. This irresponsible behaviour has resulted in numerous accidents and fatalities.
“ARTMA officers are tirelessly working around the clock to maintain smooth traffic flow, thereby eliminating the need for such hazardous actions.
“Drivers are strongly advised to adhere strictly to designated routes at all times. ARTMA has deployed a specialized team dedicated to curbing this life-threatening recklessness from 6 pm onwards.”
