Two die in auto crash in Asaba

Two people were on Wednesday crushed to death during an auto crash involving an articulated vehicle and a 911 truck in Asaba.

The driver and the conductor of the articulated vehicle were trapped under it at about 7.00 a.m as at the time of filing this report. The accident happened at a junction near the Nigerian Prisons office, Asaba.

The vehicle, with registration number GTU 70 XA, was loaded with diesel while the truck had registration number XC787 NEN.

Morrison Wenyimi, an officer of at the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), said the command received the news of the accident at about 5.30 a.m.

He said that the articulated vehicle, which was coming from Onitsha, was trying to negotiate a turn return when the accident occurred.

“It was fatal, the driver and the conductor of the tanker died and are still trapped under the tanker. The 911 truck driver was seriously injured and has been taken to the hospital for treatment.”

However, we are not sure of what happened to his conductor for now because we have not seen him,’’ Wenyimi said.

Officers of the FRSC, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and some security personnel mobilised a bulldozer to clear the vehicles from the road.
