A former Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, has urged the media to set agenda for “mindset change” for Nigerians.
Uduaghan who made the call on Thursday while speaking at the 12th All Nigerian Editors Conference (ANEC) in Port Harcourt, said that the over-reliance on oil and gas required proactive efforts of the media to redirect the minds of Nigerians toward alternatives.
“The media owes this nation a duty to midwife the process of changing the thinking of the people to make them believe that alternatives exist.
“This duty should also be directed at the situation in the Niger Delta region; this is a role the media must play in the interest of this country,” he said.
Speaking further on the Niger Delta situation, the former governor said that Niger Delta environment was hugely devastated by activities of militants.
He urged the Federal Government to involve the states in the move to restore sanity in the Niger Delta, saying, “Federal Government alone could not do it.
“It is also my call on the media to ensure thorough reportage of the situation in the Niger Delta in a way that will trigger positive results,” he said.
