Fresh facts from the venue of the All Progressives Congress Governorship campaign rally in Okrika, Rivers State indicate that yet to be identified gunmen invaded the rally venue and shot sporadically for several minutes shortly after the initial three explosions had rocked the area.

Multiple sources said that as the campaign got underway, unknown gunmen stormed the rally ground, firing shots indiscriminately, leaving party members and leaders scampering for safety.

The gun shots reportedly went on for about five minutes before police surfaced to secure the venue.

In the midst of the miller that ensued, our correspondent reports that the APC governorship candidate in the State, Dakuku Peterside and other party leaders had ferried out of the scene to avoid being hit by the gunmen.

Party sources in Port-Harcourt told our correspondent that the party had tried three times to hold its rally in the town, which incidentally is the birth place of First Lady, Patience Jonathan.

On the first two occasions, the state police command was said to have advised against APC holding its rally in the town but the latest attempt was said to have been prompted by the clearance the party received from the police.

Unconfirmed report had suggested that the First Lady had warn that no other political party, particularly, the All Progressives Congress will be allowed to campaign in Okrika, vowing that any attempt to do that will have dire consequences.
