Senators on Thursday protested the failure of the upper legislative chamber to debate the withdrawal of $1 billion from the Excess Crude Account (ECA) for the fight against Boko Haram.
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum had last week approved the withdrawal of the fund to prosecute the fight against the insurgents in North East.
Senator Samuel Anyanwu on Wednesday drew the attention of the Senate to the controversy trailing the approval given to the Federal Government to withdraw the money.
The Imo East lawmaker, who raised a point of order, urged his colleagues to allow him present a motion on the matter on Thursday.
But the matter was not listed for consideration on Thursday.
Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, sought to know why the matter was not listed in the Order Paper on Thursday.
“We agreed to look into the approval of $1 billion for the fight against Boko Haram today (Thursday). We have looked and checked the Order Paper but the matter was not listed for discussion as agreed,” Ekweremadu said.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, said the matter was not listed because Senator Anyanwu who raised the issue was not in the chamber.
Saraki assured that the issue would be taken in the next legislative day.
However, the Senate President’s explanation didn’t go down well with majority of the senators.
