Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna state, says Ayuba Wabba, president of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), and other members of the union have been declared wanted.

El-Rufai, in a tweet on Tuesday, said the labour union leaders were declared wanted for “economic sabotage and attacks on public infrastructure under Miscellaneous Offences Act”.

The governor said there will be a “handsome reward” for anyone who knows the whereabouts of the union leaders.

“KADUNA UPDATE: Ayuba Wabba & others of @NLCHeadquarters declared wanted for economic sabotage & attacks on public infrastructure under Miscellaneous Offences Act,” el-Rufai said.

“Anyone that knows where he is hiding should send a message to @MOJKaduna. KDSG. There will be a handsome reward!”

On Monday, Ayuba led members of the labour union in a protest in Kaduna over the decision of the state government to disengage 4,000 workers across the 23 LGAs of the state.

The state government cited high wage bill among other issues as the reason for the disengagement — a development that did not go down well with the labour union.

As a result, the NLC resolved to ground activities in the state with a five-day warning strike which commenced on Sunday.

On Monday, banks, hospitals, train station, airports were shut while the state was plunged into darkness as electricity workers also joined the mass action.
