Fresh facts have emerged as to why Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was absent at the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC on Friday.
Earlier report had indicated that the vice president, along with the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and former Interim National Chairman, Bisi Akande had boycotted the meeting, the first by the party since winning the presidential election in the March 28 election.
However, reliable sources within the presidency told our correspondent late on Friday that the vice president absence was due to official engagement outside Abuja.
The source further revealed that Osinbajo was at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPPS, Kuru, near Jos to represent President Muhammad Buhari, stressing that contrary to speculations, the vice president had no reason to boycott the meeting of the party’s NEC.
“It’s not true that the vice president boycotted the meeting. It was just a cheer coincidence that he wasn’t around, just as Asiwaju Tinubu and Baba Akande. The vice president was at the NIPSS to represent Mr. President,” he said.
