A woman, three vehicles and three buildings were burnt in an autocrash that happened at Eleyele area of Ibadan.

One of the affected buildings belongs to a former Commissioner for Environment in the state.

The accident involved a diesel tanker which was carrying 33,000 litres of diesel to a filling station on Ologuneru road.

The only victim of the crash which happened some minutes past 11 in the morning was burnt beyond recognition.

The rescue team involving policemen, men from Department of State Security Services, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps and men from the State fire brigade service tried effortlessly to identify the woman or any other thing that could reveal her identity.

While her burnt remains were being pulled out from the wreckage, sympathisers including men and women wept uncontrollably.

A resident in the area who identified himself as Elder Lekan Durosaro said the accident happened some minutes before 12noon.

According to him, the tanker was ascending the hill when the driver suddenly lost control. The truck was coming down the hill when the tank detached from the body of the truck.

He said, the tank rolled over a wine colour Nissan Almera car behind it and caught fire shortly after.

The intensity of the fire reportedly made it difficult for rescuers to render any help to the trapped woman in the car.

The driver of the truck who was said to be a very young man and the motor boy fled the scene for fear of being lynched by angry sympathisers.

Before fire fighters arrived the scene, three buildings including a church, Save and Serve Ministries were affected.

Also, a Mazda car marked Lagos LSR 208 EJ which was parked in the compound of the ex-commissioner’s residence was partly burnt.

During demolition of structures by roadside to allow construction of Eleyele-Eruwa road which is ongoing, there was said to be resistance by the ex-commissioner which made the construction company handling the road to leave it.

Nobody was injured in the house but a woman and a girl were seen evacuating some of their belongings from the burnt part of the building.

The remains of the woman were parked into the FRSC van and taken to the mortuary.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adekunle Ajisebutu said policemen had been sent to the accident scene.
