A Lagos house wife, Aminat Akanni was at the weekend arrested by policemen attached to Area A Command of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly drowning her stepdaughter after which she subsequently dumped the body in a canal at Orile.

In her confessional statement after she was arrested and detained at the Homicide section of the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti Street, Yaba, Akanni said she killed the four-year-old Nosifat Mubo out of spite and jealousy.

Our correspondent gathered that to carry out her devious plan, the suspect had first staged and successfully abducted two of her step children, born by the first wife for their husband, Moshood Mubo, along Church Street, Lagos Island.

“They were on their way to buy biscuit and I convinced them to follow me. It was not so difficult to convince them because they know me.

“I took them to my house at No. 20 Moshalashi Street, Alakara Bus stop, Orile. After sometime, I ask Lateef to wait for me inside while I went to the bathroom with Nosifat.

“It was inside the bathroom that I drowned the little girl in a bucket full of water. I later took the body in the middle of the night to a canal not too far from my house where I dumped the body.

“I did it because my husband does not pay attention to me anymore because I don’t have a child of my own for him. I did it to spite him.

“I regret what I did because the little girl did not offend me, even though, I nursed hatred for their mother whom I see as my rival and the reason why I cannot have my husband to myself.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kenneth Nwosu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the police swung into action after Mubo reported at Adeniji Adele Police Station that two of his children were missing.

He said the last time he saw his children was by 6p.m. after he had asked them to go and buy biscuit along the same street where they live on church street.

“During the cause of investigation, the police team recovered the body of Nosifat Mubo who died in a sudden and unnatural situation and the suspect confessed to have drowned the child and dropped the corpse at Orile.”
