Yoruba film-maker Seun Egbegbe was on Thursday remanded in prison custody by a Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ikeja for allegedly stealing nine iPhones.

Egbegbe pleaded not guilty to a count of stealing brought against him by the Lagos State Police Command.

Magistrate Aje Afunwa granted the accused bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum, but directed that Egbegbe be kept at the Kirikiri Prisons until his bail conditions were met.

Egbegbe’s problem started at the Computer Village, Ikeja, after he was accused of stealing the iPhones from a shop.

After buying the phones, he reportedly told a sales boy in the shop that he wanted to pick money from his vehicle outside but allegedly attempted to escape with the phones in the waiting jeep when the sales boy raised the alarm.

Contrary to a report credited to Seun Egbegbe that he was neither arrested nor beaten by any mob, our correspondent learnt that he was in police custody for two days until he was arraigned on Thursday.
